What advice do you have for those beginning the internship process? Apply to as many jobs as possible for your internships. Always keep in mind that an internship is an extended interview with the possibility of future full-time employment.
What projects did you work on? I worked on the F-35 program, which is one of the biggest projects for the company right now.
How did your internship connect back to your coursework? This position provided me an opportunity to learn about the software necessary to maintain an aircraft.
What was the coolest thing about your internship or that happened during your internship? I got to tour their simulators center which has all of the flight simulators that Lockheed provides to its customers.
What did you like most about your experience? I loved the fact that the work provided to me was the same work that all of my team did and performed. They treated me like a full-time engineer.
What did you learn about yourself? I learned that it is good to sometimes go out of your scope and learn something new outside of your field of study.
How did the position increase your professional confidence? I got to witness the value of working as a team to achieve a common goal.
How did you expand your professional network? This internship produced an offer to come back as a full-time employee in January. I was able to ask my manager to place me in the F-35 simulator program as a systems integration and test engineer.
How did it help you prove yourself in the “real world”? It proved to me that I can learn and perform with excellence in anything that I set my mind to as long as I enjoy what I am doing and passionate about it.
