On June 2, FIU’s office in D.C. opened its doors to welcome students who traveled to Washington, D.C. for the summer to fulfill internships at various sites around the city.

Each year, FIU in D.C. hosts a gathering to get to know the interns, introduce them to each other, as well as offer introductory information about Washington. Networking and professional development are also part of a larger engagement with the interns throughout the summer.

“The collaborative energy of the FIU team was felt throughout the entirety of the workshop, and, as an intern, I left feeling significantly more informed on the resources available to me through my university” said Sebastian Villanueva, who is interning in FIU’s office in D.C.

With interns at NGO’s, non-profit organizations, government agencies and private corporations, FIU students can be found abundantly throughout the Capital. Thanks in major part to FIU’s partnership with The Washington Center (TWC) for academic internships, just under half of the interns in D.C. are participating in TWC’s program.

“The moment I stepped foot on our nation’s capital, I knew I belonged here. I can’t wait to reflect at the end of this summer, and share how I left my mark,” said Estefania Delgado, intern at the Department of Defense.
