Hurricane preparedness with Roary

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, which started June 1, is forecast to be more active than historical averages with regard to the number of named storms, according to the latest forecasts released by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. Early this morning, Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall in Louisiana, reminding us all that now is the time to review, revise or create a personal hurricane plan and purchase the supplies necessary for a disaster kit.

Hurricane preparation may be a new experience for many members of the university community. If you are new to South Florida, there are resources available online. Review them to make sure you are ready.

FIU’s Department of Emergency Management has also partnered with FIU Online to develop a free emergency preparedness course. The hurricane preparedness portion of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is available here.

As American author H. Jackson Brown Jr. says, “the best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” So start prepping now.
