FIU Haiti Initiative
Doing our part
Volunteer
Florida International University has created a database of fluent Haitian Creole speakers willing to volunteer their time to help with a number of ongoing efforts to support South Florida’s Haitian community in the aftermath of the Jan. 12 earthquake that devastated Haiti.
In the last year, interpreters have assisted the College of Law’s Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic as it helps Haitian immigrants apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). FIU also continues to respond to a number of requests from its community partners who need Creole interpreters.
Anyone interested in volunteering, please fill out the form below. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and other members of the South Florida community are welcome to apply.
Donate
Support FIU’s efforts in The Art of Giving: Shoes for Haiti initiative where FIU Art & Art History students will be donating children’s converse sneakers to over 500 orphans in three orphanages in Haiti. The students will adorn each donated pair of shoes with original artistic designs. Your contributions will assist with the purchasing of the shoes, the paint materials and/or the costs associated with shipping the sneakers to Haiti. Click here to donate now!
