Art Auction Features Prominent Miami Artists
Miami,
Fla. (Jan. 8, 2001) -- This Wednesday evening, January 10, the Visual
Arts Department will conduct a silent art auction to benefit the Anisa
Matthews Memorial Scholarship endowment.
The art auction
will feature the work of more than 40 artists, including 10 FIU faculty
members. Several prominent South
Florida artists have donated pieces for this auction, including Miguel
Padura, Victoria Gitman, Ramon Carulla,
and Dana Cohn. Current students
and graduates of the department have contributed works.
Proceeds from the
auction will benefit the Anisa Matthews Memorial Scholarship, established
in memory of Anisa Matthews, an FIU art student who was killed last summer. One of Matthews’ paintings is among the
works to be auctioned.
The silent auction
will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. in the new Visual Arts studio facilities
in W-10, on the west side of the University Park Campus. Admission to the exhibition is free, and
light refreshments will be served.
Works on display will include painting, sculpture, ceramics and
jewelry.
This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire high quality art work
at below market prices. The entire purchase price of each work will be
used for the scholarship endowment, which will benefit talented students
majoring in Visual Arts at FIU.
For additional information, call the Visual Arts Department at 305-348-2897.
For those who wish to make a donation, checks can be made payable to the
FIU Foundation-Anisa Matthews Foundation and sent to the Visual Arts Department,
