FIU,
Hotelworks.com Launch 'Hotelworks Institute'
New
program with FIU's renowned School of Hospitality Management
to provide easy access to valuable industry information online
MIAMI,
Fla. (April 11, 2001) - Florida International University's School
of Hospitality Management, one of the most highly-acclaimed hospitality
schools in the world, and Hotelworks.com, the largest independent
hotel procurement company in the world, have teamed up to launch
the Hotelworks Institute.
The
chief goal of the Hotelworks Institute is to enrich the global hospitality
industry through a broad range of information services, all provided
free of charge. These include educational seminars, informative
talks and up-to-date information on trends and other pertinent issues
from throughout the industry, all through an easily accessed web
site (within Hotelworks.com) at www.hotelworks.com/Institute.
"There
were a number of compelling reasons to launch the Institute,"
said Douglas Parker, president and CEO of Hotelworks.com. "As
our company functions on a global scale, we see the value of maximizing
the information and resources of an organization such as FIU's School
of Hospitality Management. Our involvement with FIU allows us to
provide access to information from some of the best minds in hospitality,
through what we call a 'clicks and mortar' initiative. The Institute
will participate in select industry activities, while at the same
time providing valuable information through an online venue."
The
site will ultimately include:
- Highlights of recent lectures by renowned FIU professors
- Online version of FIU's highly acclaimed Hospitality Journals
- Research information
- Internship opportunities
- Information on featured professors, and more.
We
are working to ensure that the Institute is a valuable resource,"
said Joseph West, dean of the FIU School of Hospitality Management.
"It will provide a number of benefits, among them information
from our professors that has never been offered online and an interactive
component to secure answers to important questions from anywhere
in the globe.
"The
Institute is sure to provide individuals and students of the global
hospitality industry access to a major reservoir of knowledge. We
are always looking for ways to maximize the dissemination of valuable
information. We also hope the Institute will help pique the interest
of individuals from throughout the world to further explore the
possibilities available to them within the ever-growing field of
hospitality."
"This
initiative is an example of melding the resources of a major learning
institution with the know-how of a company that has been a major
player in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years,"
said Parker. "It is a privilege to be part of such a worthwhile
endeavor."
