FIU Music Festival Set To Kick Off In November

MIAMI, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2002) – The Florida International University Music Festival, presented by the FIU School of Music, is around the corner. The Music Festival begins on Friday, Nov. 1 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 16. The following is the festival’s events calendar:

Friday, Nov. 1, 8 p.m. - The FIU Big Band will be performing with special guest jazz musician David Sanborn. Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, Miami.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 8 p.m. – FIU Symphony Orchestra will be performing with guest conductor David Amram at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center (WPAC). FIU-University Park (UP).

Sunday, Nov. 3, 3 p.m. – Enjoy a concert organ program, with Notre Dame organist Olivier Latry. WPAC, UP.

Tuesday, Nov. 5, 8 p.m. – FIU New Music Ensemble with guest composers Orlando J. Garcia and Fredrick Kaufman. Wolfsonian-FIU, Miami Beach.

• Wednesday, Nov. 6, 8 p.m. - Heri Bok, bass clarinet recital. WPAC, UP.

Thursday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. – FIU will host a Contemporary Blues Evening, featuring Toots Thieleman on harmonica, Henri Bok on bass clarinet and Mike Orta on piano. Coral Gables Congregational Church, Coral Gables.

Friday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m. – The Miami String Quartet will perform. Broward Center for the Performing Arts - Amaturo Theatre, Fort Lauderdale.

Saturday, Nov. 9, 8 p.m. - Enjoy Masaru Kawasaki’s The Dirge as FIU celebrates Japan night. WPAC, UP.

Sunday, Nov. 10, 8 p.m. – Enjoy Kemel Gekic on piano and Robert Davidovici on violin in the Meeting at the Summit III. Temple Emanu-El, Miami Beach.

Tuesday, Nov. 12, 8 p.m. – Join musical group Entrequatre, the Spanish Guitar Quartet. Coral Gables Congregational Church, Coral Gables.

• Thursday, Nov. 14, 8p.m. - The film Forbidden Planet / Multimedia works by women composers. Location TBA.

Friday, Nov. 15, 8 p.m. – FIU Symphony Orchestra will be performing. Lincoln Theatre, Miami Beach.

Saturday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m. – Arturo Sandoval and the Cuban Connection will close the festival. WPAC, UP.
