The Florida Legislature unanimously approved and Gov. Jeb Bush signs a bill that created two new law schools for the state, one at FIU, the other at FAMU
Dec. 2000
National search for a founding dean results in the selection of Dean Leonard Strickman, who began work at FIU immediately.
Summer 2001
Core administrative staff begins work. New College of Law offices open on the 4th floor of the Green Library. Faculty recruitment begins. Applications become available.
Sept. 2001
First student application is received. More than 700 applications follow for the 120 seats available.
Fall 2002
Dean hosts recruitment/informational sessions throughout South Florida
Spring 2002
Initial law faculty is hired, including professors with teaching experience at Harvard, Cornell, and Michigan State University
