Important FIU Traffic Info. for Aug. 26-30

MIAMI, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2002) - As Florida International University gets set to open its doors for the fall semester, new activities and more students than ever present a potential for traffic tie-ups. FIU officials have released the following traffic information to help you avoid delays:

  • Beginning the first day of school, Wed., Aug. 28, parking lots 6 and 7 adjacent to Golden Panther Stadium will be closed to begin preparation for the university's inaugural football game on Aug. 29. Students, faculty and staff are urged to arrive early for work and class and park in the Blue and Gold garages or in lots on the east, north and west ends of campus.
  • Southwest 17th Street will be closed between 113th and 115th avenues beginning Wed., Aug. 28.
  • Police officers will be directing traffic on campus roads. Please be prepared to show parking credentials or identification on Thurs., Aug. 29, evening prior to the football game, which begins at 7:30 p.m.
  • Students, faculty and staff who arrive at FIU on Thurs., Aug. 29, and intend to stay on campus for the football game are asked to leave their cars where originally parked. It is not advisable to move cars closer to the stadium prior to game time.
  • Traffic on the streets surrounding FIU on Thurs., Aug. 29, may be backed up throughout the day and evening.
  • Radiate 88, 88.1 FM, FIU's radio station, will be broadcasting FIU traffic updates every Monday through Friday at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
