Golden Panthers Football Wins Big

The FIU Golden Panthers made history Thursday night with its debut football game, a 27-3 whipping of highly regarded St. Peter's in front of a sellout crowd of 17,314. FIU got started early by scoring four consecutive touchdowns and piling up 236 yards of offense in the first half on the Peacocks, last year's No. 1-ranked defense in Division I-AA.

Quarterback Jamie Burke connected with fullback Jerrid Lundstedt on a 5-yard swing pass for the first touchdown in FIU history with 8:18 to play in the first quarter. And special guests including Gov. Jeb Bush, former Dolphin great Dan Marino and FIU alumnus/Florida Marlins star Mike Lowell watched it all unfold.
