FIU, Florida Restaurant Association and House of Angostura Team Up for South Florida Event

MIAMI, Fla. (Sept. 9, 2002) -- Florida International University’s School of Hospitality Management will partner with the House of Angostura and the Florida Restaurant Association (FRA) to host the “2002 Taste of Caribbean and University Fete.”

The celebration aims to illustrate the diversity of island foods with a culinary taste to showcase Caribbean culture and music. The event will take place Saturday, October 12, 2002, at the FIU Biscayne Bay campus, 3000 N.E. 151 Street.

Members of the FRA participating in the event include: Island Grill; The Deck (Bahamas Hotel); Willie Ice Cream; Bahama Breeze; Tu Tu Tango; The Coal Pot; Spices; Foodalicious; Martini's Bistro Bar; Tropical Gourmet; Cajun Grill; Tap Tap Haitian Creole Restaurant; FRA’s Miami/Dade Chapter and the American Culinary Federation.

With the hospitality industry being the largest employer in Florida, “2002 Taste of Caribbean and University Fete” will offer FIU Hospitality and Management students the added knowledge of Caribbean culture in the hospitality industry. Since a portion of proceeds from the ticket sales will be earmarked toward scholarships at FIU’s School of Hospitality Management, one of the nation’s leading hospitality schools, students will have scholarship opportunities to further their education in the hospitality field.

The House of Angostura is a Caribbean-based company, which today produces bitters and rum products exported worldwide.

Sponsors for this event include: American Express; Laparkan; BWIA Airlines; Freight-Express; Labatt; Carib; Air Jamaica; Grace Kennedy USA and the Florida Lottery.
