Faculty Convocation Week brings together
the University’s academics to celebrate individual achievement
and collective pride. FIU’s 1,000 full-time faculty serve
the student body as well as the broader community through their
dedication to teaching, research and service. Their commitment
to excellence remains integral to FIU’s reputation as a
respected institution of higher learning.
All Faculty Convocation Week events will take place at University
Park and are free and open to the entire FIU family, including
students, unless otherwise noted. The schedule includes the following:
Sunday, Sept. 29
30th Anniversary Founders’ Celebration, 5 p.m.
FIU’s Executive Council recognizes the current members of
the faculty and staff who have served FIU since its inception.
GC Ballroom. By invitation only.
Monday, Sept. 30
Honors College
Parade and Convocation, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
The Honors College presents its annual parade of flags, which
features students and faculty in a lively show of colors. A ceremony
highlighting student scholarship will immediately follow. Parade
through campus, Convocation in GC Ballroom. Starting at 3 p.m.
President’s Tenure & Promotion Reception,
6 p.m.
President Maidique and Provost Rosenberg recognize FIU’s
newly tenured and promoted faculty. University House. By invitation
only.
Tuesday, Oct. 1
Folk Concert with Amy Carol
Webb, 8 p.m.
The FIU Faculty Club, UFF and the Faculty Senate present “Songweaver”
Amy Carol Webb—named “Best Solo Musician” by
New Times and described by Billboard as “taking
up the road where Carole King, Janis Ian and Joni Mitchell have
trod”—in a recreated ’60s-style coffeehouse
atmosphere. GC Ballroom.
Thursday, Oct. 3
Provost’s Dinner, 6 p.m.
Provost Rosenberg hosts members of the FIU Faculty Senate. Faculty
Club. By invitation only.
Friday, Oct. 4
Faculty Convocation, 9 a.m.-noon (Participating faculty
assemble at 8 a.m.)
FIU’s faculty, many wearing academic regalia, meet together
to process as a group and confer awards for individual achievement
in the areas of teaching, research and service. Stanley
Fish, dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at
the University of Illinois at Chicago, will deliver the keynote
address. Wertheim Performing Arts Center.
