MIAMI (Feb. 1, 2001) -
Florida International University's School of Architecture (SOA)
faculty and students were winners of many of the awards and honors
recently presented at the 2001 AIA Miami Awards.
"When so many of our faculty and students are honored in
this fashion, it only validates our efforts to provide a top-notch
education for our students," said FIU SOA Dean Juan Antonio
Bueno. "It gives us great satisfaction to have done so well
at this professional award ceremony."
FIU President Modesto A. Maidique was presented with the AIA Community
Leadership for Architecture Award for the support he gave the
architecture community when he and former Architecture Dean William
McMinn petitioned a design competition for the new FIU Paul Cejas
Architecture Building, which is in its final construction phases.

Appreciation Awards; and the AIA Silver Medal for Best Design,
which is the highest honor award bestowed upon an AIA member
