MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2002)—The
College of Continuing and Professional Studies at Florida International
University is offering four courses between Jan. 6 - 18 in South
Beach. Students from around the country who want to take part
will have an opportunity to earn 3-6 credits during their winter
break. Courses may also be taken without credit so that the local
community, as well as visitors, may benefit from this unique opportunity
to explore South Beach and simultaneously experience intellectual
growth.
Courses include, “The Architectural Landscape of Miami ~
Visions and Constructs,” which explores the architectural
history of Miami, “Films of Woody Allen,” which examines
the humor, social, economic, political, and cultural issues represented
in the films, “Special Topics in Architecture,” which
reviews the Art Deco and Miami Modern Architecture movements,
and “Creative Concepts,” which concentrates on creative
thinking and the development of multimedia campaigns (advertising/PR
and promotion).
Classes span four to six hours a day, five days a week and are
held at The Wolfsonian-Florida International University, located
in heart of South Beach, on Washington Avenue. Each course utilizes
FIU’s exceptional resources and is taught by experts in
their respective fields. The program is limited to 50 students
so that excellent teacher-student interaction is ensured. Accommodations
are at the South Beach Best Western Hotel.
“We offer students an enriching and valuable experience
by setting standards of excellence in innovative curriculum design,
teaching, professional development, and cross-cultural understanding,”
said David Grossman, Dean of FIU’s College of Continuing
and Professional Studies.
The cost for the first three-credit course is $1,995 and includes
double room accommodations and continental breakfast each day.
A second 3 credit course may be added for $500, and commuter students
may take each 3 credit course for $750. Each non-credit course
is $600, which does not include accommodations or breakfast. The
deadline to register is Dec. 10. Interested participants should
