The Florida International University Ambassadors are a select group of students who serve as hosts and hostesses for visiting dignitaries at numerous university and community functions. These events include Commencement, Convocation, Fundraisers and Board of Trustees meetings. The Offices of the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Alumni Relations, and other prominent areas within the University work with ambassadors for their various needs. These functions are vital to the mission of the University.

To be selected as an Ambassador is an honor and an excellent opportunity for personal and professional growth. Students who are selected as Ambassadors possess strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, a genuine interest in meeting new people, and a sense of school spirit and pride.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to commit to the program for the entire year. (summer, fall, & spring).

  • Candidates must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and must be enrolled in at least nine (9) credit hours during the fall and spring semesters, and at least three (3) credit hours during the summer in order to serve as an ambassador.

  • Candidates must be able to attend training workshops, retreats and mandatory monthly meetings. Meetings are held at FIU once a month.

  • If selected, it is required that Ambassadors work a minimum of two events each month to remain in good standing.

  • Candidates must not have a disciplinary record or be currently under charges within the University judicial system.

  • Candidates must make a commitment to the mission of the University and the Student Ambassador Program and possess the following personal qualities: Desire to learn, Enthusiasm, Leadership, Responsibility, Dependability, Maturity, Initiative, Dedication, and Punctuality.

  • All Ambassadors must be dues paying members of the Student Alumni Association (SAA); $10/year. (Can be paid when turning in this application.)
    The Role of an Ambassador:

  • Represent the University as official hosts and hostesses at various University and community events, both on and off-campus.

  • Provide University tours to visitors and prospective students.

  • Learn important interpersonal skills while gaining professional experiences.

  • Gain valuable information about FIU, Miami, the State University System and higher education events.

  • Meet and network with FIU officials and donors, as well as alumni, staff, administrators and community leaders.

  • Gain leadership skills by participating in monthly workshops and networking opportunities with business and scholarly leaders for future professional and academic endeavors.

  • Free admission and reserved seating at selected special events and programs.

  • Formal uniform for official events and polo for casual events.

  • Priority registration for classes.

  • Free attendance to Business Etiquette Dinner.

Meeting Schedule for new Ambassadors

Ambassadors will meet once a month beginning in May. This time will be set based on the schedules of the students. Ambassadors should also attend the regular meetings of the Student Alumni Association.
