Budget Town Hall Meetings - Mark Your Calendars |
After
an especially challenging 2003 regular session, the Florida
Legislature passed the state budget Tuesday on the last
day of the
special session called to complete action on state funding
for next
year.
I'm very proud of the way the university
and our friends in the
community pulled together to ward off draconian budget
cuts that were
proposed early in the regular session. Our voices were
heard, and we
finally wound up with a no-frills, flat budget which does
not fund new
enrollment. Not good but not draconian. You might be interested
to
know that our new governmental relations web site recorded
over 150,000
hits from 5,000 visitors. One consequence of your calls
and e-mails was
that a dedicated core of South Florida legislators were
fighting for
FIU's budget.
To brief you in greater detail, you
are invited to a university-wide
public forum on the 2003-2004 budget. I want to take this
opportunity
to report on the 2003 Legislative Session and discuss
with you our
vision for FIU's future.
The Town Hall meetings will take
place on Tuesday, June 3rd, from 10:00
am to 12:30 pm in Biscayne Bay Campus' WUC 100, and
from 3:00 to 5:00 pm
in University Park Campus' GC 140. Please mark your
calendars. |
