June 27th thru August 20th
MIAMI, Fla. (June 13, 2003)- The Art Museum at Florida International University presents its
Florida Artists: Painting and Installation
exhibit, which will run from June 27th to August 20th, featuring
James Couper III and Bill Burke.
“This exhibit features striking contemporary treatments of landscape that
are rooted in ecological and moral sensibilities as well as finely crafted mixed
media insights into the ebb and flow of life cycles,” said Dahlia Morgan,
director of The Art Museum at FIU.
Receiving national acclaim for his
paintings, Couper will be presenting his latest works that depict
landscapes of Florida and the South.
Burke’s installations represent the literal storage of nature's physical
objects, such as flora and fauna, in order to trigger recollections of
sights witnessed in the past and present.
Couper received his Master of Arts
degree from Florida State University while Burke received his
Master of Fine Arts degree from the State University,
College of New York. Both artists are professors at FIU.
