As students return to campus
for the Fall 2003 semester (or arrive for the first time), several
upcoming events will serve as a festive
way to usher in the 2003-04 academic year.
Now in its fourth year, Freshman
Convocation is the official welcoming ceremony of freshmen to
the university community by
the president,
provost and faculty and staff. The 2003 event is scheduled for
Sun., Aug. 24, at 2:30-4 p.m. in the Golden Panther Arena at
FIU-University Park. Please arrive early -- doors open at 2 p.m.
The event is
a celebration of the traditions of FIU and illustrates the University’s
support of students’ educational goals – inside and
outside of the classroom. All members of the Class of 2007 are
asked to confirm their attendance at Freshman Convocation by
Tues., Aug. 19, by calling 305-348-6404 or by visiting http://www.fiu.edu/~orient/convocation.htm and responding online.
Also for the freshmen, the Biscayne
Bay Campus will be hosting a Freshman Welcome Picnic by the Hospitality
Management patio
on Fri., Aug. 29, from noon-2 p.m. For more information, please
call
305-919-5280.
All students are invited to the Faculty/Student
BBQ on Thurs., Aug. 28, at the Betty Chapman Plaza outside the
Graham Center
at FIU-University Park. This free barbecue for the students (guests
will be charged $5), complete with live entertainment, will run
from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to meet other
students and faculty members in an informal setting and promises
to be a fun time.

events at all FIU campuses, visit the Campus Life web site at
