Men’s Soccer Falls to Top Seed in NCAA Third Round

No. 14 FIU lost to top seed and defending national champion UCLA, 2-0, in the third round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championships at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles.

FIU’s Roy Rosenberg made three saves in goal for the Golden Panthers while his counterpart, Zach Wells, also made three saves en route to his 11th shutout of the season.

The Golden Panthers out-shot the Bruins 10-8 in the match and finish their season with a 14-5-3 record.

In the previous round, FIU won a thriller, edging No. 17 Cal State Northridge, 5-4, in penalty kicks at University Park. Each team had made its first four penalty kicks after battling to a 1-1 tie through two overtime periods when sophomore midfielder Jared Rose hammered in FIU’s fifth penalty kick to send the Golden Panthers out to California to face the defending national champions, UCLA.
