Aspiring FIU entrepreneurs, you’ve still got time: The deadline
to apply to compete in the second annual Howard J. Leonhardt New
Venture Challenge is Fri., Feb. 6. A collaboration between the
College of Business Administration (CBA) and the College of Engineering
(COE), the Howard J. Leonhardt New Venture Challenge is the latest
iteration of CBA’s original Net-Biz Challenge Business Plan
Competition, which was launched in 2000-01. This updated version
of the original competition focuses on the technological innovation
and business acumen necessary to bring an innovation to market
successfully.
The first-place undergraduate
and graduate teams will each receive $15,000 in cash and up
to $10,000 in in-kind contributions. One
second-place team will receive $5,000 in cash and up to $2,500
in in-kind contributions while one third-place team (undergraduate)
will receive $1,000 in cash. There will be a $5,000 cash award
for Best Prototype, as well as a $5,000 cash Biomedical Award.
Open to all full- and part-time
FIU students enrolled in the 2003-04 academic year, as well
as to students from select international
schools, the competition employs a team format. Teams accepted
into the New Venture Challenge must submit a written business
plan
for an original, start-up venture that addresses the complete
business concept, including implementation.
Interested teams must submit
an application form by Feb. 6 and will receive notification
and further instructions by Feb.

Winners will be announced at the FIU Entrepreneurship Hall
of Fame Luncheon and Induction Ceremony on May 13. (To access
