After 18 years at FIU, Chef Instructor Michael Moran ’86 MS’03 relishes working with students in the classroom and participating in the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival. “I get a lot of satisfaction from that. Our students are hungry and thirsty and they want to learn.”
My passion:
The South Florida community. It’s such a rich place as far as culture, and the food world is always changing. I think being able to be a part of that with our students through the Wine & Food Festival is tremendous.
On what kind of impact he hopes to have on the world:
I hope people will have an appreciation for the quality of food, that they will feel comfortable enough in the kitchen in order to prepare a good meal.
On what he hopes to teach his students:
“Get it right the first time.”
On working with students at the Wine & Food Festival:
I look at it not only as an opportunity to interact with students in a teacher-student capacity, but as if they were managers already. Going through this experience really helps them power up their skills.
My dream:
I’m living it every day. I have my family. I live in South Florida. I teach at FIU.
