Kathryn Bondi, valedictorian of Zion Lutheran Christian School, is settling into her new life as a college student at a major research university. So how does the 18-year-old from Deerfield Beach like it so far?
“It’s fun,” says the self-described “outgoing” freshman. “I’m taking three classes. I’m enjoying getting to know my roommate, making my own decisions and living on my own. It’s a big adjustment but, so far, so good.”
FIU is so proud to welcome this ambitious young woman to the Golden Panther family that we’re featuring her in an ad campaign to run in The Miami Herald. Recently, we met with Bondi and asked her a few questions about herself and her future plans.
Here are some video clips of the interview:
Here is an excerpt of the interview:
What it took to be the best in my class:
A lot of hard work, dedication, the ability to multi-task. I had a lot of encouragement from my family and friends. I definitely wouldn’t be here without them.
On starting college at FIU:
I’ve always wanted to live in Miami. I love adjusting to new challenges, and this is definitely a big challenge. The University Park campus is huge!
Where I see myself in 10 years:
Opening my own medical practice. I’ve always wanted to be a doctor and help people. If I can help others, I’ll feel as if I’m doing something good with my life.
My dream:
In a perfect world, if I could do anything, I would be a cruise ship captain. I love the ocean and the sea, and I love giving orders. My family and I have been on nine cruises – they’re great.
