FIU Law graduates rank second in Florida in passing the state bar exam

MIAMI – Graduates of Florida International University College of Law placed second in passage rate for the July state bar exam among Florida’s ten law schools.

FIU’s 90.6 percent passage rate among first time takers of the July exam-58 graduates-placed the young law school in second place, while the University of Miami School of Law topped the list with a 92.4 percent passage rate. The state’s overall passage rate was 82.5 percent.

Since its founding, FIU College of Law has graduated 322 lawyers. Last July, 85.9 percent of graduating students passed the bar on their first try, while the prior year, 79 percent passed.  This demonstrates a positive trend, from sixth in the state in July 2005 to second this year.

The College of Law opened in 2002, was provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association in 2004 and fully accredited in 2006, the quickest possible time in which a law school may achieve full accreditation under ABA rules.
