FIU’s Continuing and Professional Studies offers skill-enhancement courses for attorneys

Courses added to popular Legal Studies Institute to meet the needs of lawyers seeking to upgrade skills

In an effort to help legal professionals remain competitive through skills enhancement, the division of Continuing and Professional Studies’ Legal Studies Institute (LSI), will offer a series of new seminars for attorneys starting March 2009 at FIU’s University Park Campus.

“We are committed to offering provocative learning opportunities to attorneys as a way to provide an invaluable service to the legal sector, a driver of South Florida’s economic growth,” explains Ana Crucet, director of the Legal Studies Institute. “Through LSI’s highly experienced and credentialed faculty, we seek to be at the forefront of critical thinking and learning in emerging areas.”

The United States Department of Labor (USDL) predicts that growth up to the year 2011 in both the population and in the level of business activity will create more legal transactions, civil disputes and criminal cases.  These trends make it the perfect time for attorneys to invest in their professional development and marketability by participating in the LSI programs to stay competitive and ahead of the curve. Seminars will be offered on timely topics such as bankruptcy, labor law, persuasion in the courtroom, women in law, and managing the law office in times of economic challenges. Additionally, LSI’s immigration seminar, a successful continuing legal education 4-day course, has given rise to two new offerings:  basic and advanced immigration courses.  As an added bonus, CLEs will be sought from The Florida Bar. These seminars will also serve as unique networking opportunities for attorneys.

Seminar fees range from $295 to $895.  To learn more about these courses, to obtain a seminar schedule or for more information on the Legal Studies Institute, please contact LSI at (305) 348-2491 or visit us at http://www.caps.fiu.edu/legal/.
