New workforce absenteeism study offers insights on who is calling in sick—and why

With unemployment on the rise, people worried about protecting their jobs might show up at work more often. But is that necessarily a good thing for their employers? And what do shifts in absenteeism reveal about other problems that may lurk in the work environment? A study by Nathan J. Hiller, assistant professor, College of Business Administration, that deals with these issues is garnering international attention and has much to say to companies here at home.
