OLLI@FIU invites public to “jazzy” preview of its personal enrichment courses

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Florida International University will introduce the community to its stimulating array of classes and tours at an Open House at the Biscayne Bay Campus.

The Open House for OLLI’s second winter term will begin at 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 at the Kovens Conference Center in North Miami, 3000 N.E. 151st St. Instructors of art history, opera, current events, languages, literature and cinema will be on hand to meet prospective students and provide overviews of their courses.

“OLLI’s next open house will give students an opportunity to meet the instructors face-to-face and preview exciting upcoming courses as well as get a glimpse of the beautiful state-of-the-art facility where the courses are held,” said Clara Barman, coordinator of FIU’s OLLI. “We look forward to meeting and greeting everyone at this exciting event and welcome the chance to show South Florida why OLLI at FIU is such an incredible place for lifelong learners to connect and expand their minds.”

Those in attendance can learn more about the “OLLI 2 GO” extended tours that are in the works to expose the Institute’s members to interesting learning opportunities through travel to locations within Florida and beyond. They can also register to win a free course and enjoy refreshments as saxophonist and OLLI instructor Joe Donato brings the house down with one of his stellar musical jazz performances. Additionally, for the first time ever, OLLI @ FIU will be hosting an art exhibit consisting of examples of photography, drawing and beading created by the Institute’s talented students.

More than 30 courses and tours will be offered in the new term, which starts on February 23 and continues through Apr. 3. Exciting day tours are also planned for the term – a highlight of the FIU OLLI program. Those who register for classes by Feb. 16 will receive an early registration discount per course.
