Footlighters light up stage to raise scholarship dollars for FIU students

Join the College of Architecture + The Arts in A Salute to American Musical Theatre and experience an extraordinary event showcasing the remarkable Footlighters Club. An international organization of performers, the Footlighters Club showcases singers, dancers, entertainers and comedians, including prominent figures such as Gary Burghoff from the hit series M*A*S*H and comedy star Jack Carter. On Sunday, March 22, 2009, South Florida’s public will have the chance to experience musical theatre at its best as the Footlighters Club joins the selected talents of FIU Music, Theatre and Dance students for an unforgettable performance.

The Footlighters Club is proud to sponsor the Footlighters Fund at Florida International University, which provides scholarships for students in the performing arts. Its goal is to raise a total of $100,000 in scholarship support at this event.

The Footlighters Club is an all-volunteer organization supported by nearly 400 members who represent a broad spectrum of the professional and geographic community served by theatre. The Footlighters Club South Florida chapter has supported the performing arts at the FIU College of Architecture + The Arts for the past two years.

“I am excited to share what we have gained from our experience in the performing arts with the students,” said Leo Goldner, chairman of the Board of the club’s South Florida chapter. “A Salute to American Musical Theatre showcases a variety of performers who are passionate about the arts. Together they will be sure to light up the stage.”

A Salute to American Musical Theatre will include a variety of acts by the Footlighters Club interspersed with FIU theatre, dance, and music students.

This special benefit performance will take place Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Mary Ann Wolfe Theatre at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, 3000 NE 151 Street.

Seats are available for donations of $1,000, $750, $500, $250 and $100. All donations are tax-deductible as defined by law.
