FIU Music Spring Opera Gala premieres April 7

FIU Music presents the second annual Spring Opera Gala on April 7, 2009, at 8 p.m. in the Manuel Artime Theatre.

Enjoy an exciting and entertaining evening of popular operatic scenes performed by enthusiastic FIU Music students.

The concert will include beloved and popular ensembles and scenes including selections from Mozart’s Magic Flute, Cosi fan tutte and Don Giovanni; Verdi’s MacBeth and La Forza del destino; Donizetti’s Don Pasquale; Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia; Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann; and Strauss’ Die Fledermaus.

The concert will feature the FIU Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Carlos Riazuelo and members of the FIU Opera Workshop, under the direction of Kathleen Wilson and Jennifer Renée Snyder. Also featured is Miami baritone, Graham Fandrei, who has recently performed with the Florida Grand Opera, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and Seraphic Fire.

“This is a fabulous showcase for the young singers at FIU to demonstrate their growing operatic skills. For many of them, this is their first performance of operatic repertoire with a full orchestra. They are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with an experienced opera conductor like Maestro Riazuelo. Coming at the end of the semester, it is a celebration of their skills and accomplishments,” says Robert Dundas, FIU associate professor of music.

The Manuel Artime Theatre is located at 900 SW 1st Street, Miami, FL 33130.  There is ample parking in the rear of the Theatre off of 9th Avenue.
