FIU to host fundraising reception and silent auction for deserving transfer and international students

WHAT: Scholarships Awarding Global Excellence (SAGE) is a fundraiser sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services at Florida International University that provides scholarships to talented international and transfer students. The money raised is used to aid the students in defraying the rising costs of a college education. Students are evaluated based on their academic merit and organizational involvement.

Some of the silent auction items will include a three-day/two-night stay at the Double Tree Ocean Point Resort and Spa; three-day/two-night stay at the Miami Airport Marriott; two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Miami; $1600 value gift certificate for Dolphin Stadium; a signed Miami Dolphin football; $100 value gift certificate to Joe Allen restaurant; Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions course; $150 value Hair and Body New Dimensions skin care treatment.

WHO: The SAGE Scholarship aims to reward hardworking, ambitious, full-time international students and non-international transfer undergraduate students by assisting them with the cost of tuition and other education-related expenses. These students play a vital role in the cultural diversity of the student population and also help in the social development and education of the FIU student body.

WHEN: Friday, April 17, 2009 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for faculty, staff and the outside community and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services at BBC-WUC 253 or at UP-GC 216.
