Fifty-two professors representing all FIU colleges and schools recently responded to a request for proposals (RFP) to develop interdisciplinary, team-taught undergraduate global learning foundations courses, slated for piloting in Fall 2010. Proffered by the Provost’s Office and the Office of Global Learning Initiatives, the RFP provides for a $5,000 stipend for each faculty member chosen to participate in the course development process during Summer C 2009. Participants will engage in faculty development discussions and workshops as they create inquiry-based courses featuring high-interest teaching and learning methods. Courses will be designed around global themes and will provide students with the knowledge and skills to examine global dynamics from multiple disciplinary and cultural perspectives.

The global learning foundations courses are part of FIU’s Global Learning Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), the centerpiece of the university’s 2010 Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmation of accreditation. Awards will be announced on April 22, 2009.
