The Wolfsonian-FIU launched a brand-new, community-service networking group called the Wolf Pack Gives Back on April 23.

At a kick-off event last Thursday, Lindsay Merill (pictured above) spoke to the group about Lotus House, a women’s shelter in the heart of Overtown that offers transitional housing and support services to homeless women and infants.

Former FIU professor and landscape architect Ted Baker also gave a lecture on community activism. The talk was followed by a screening of “Eden Lost and Found – Philadelphia,” a documentary film about community-based groups in Philadelphia and how they survived funding cut-backs.

“The Wolfsonian focuses on design as an agent of social change,” said Cath Leff, director of the Wolfsonian-FIU. “We thought it would be interesting to have people in a design museum play a role in social change.”

“I’m really proud that many of our staff members have signed up themselves,” Leff added.

Participants will volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, Shake-A-Leg-Miami, and Lotus House, among others. For more information, contact Lydia Lopez at 305-535-2644 or lydia@thewolf.fiu.edu.
