FIU to Usher in New Era with Installation of Mark B. Rosenberg as its Fifth President on Friday

WHAT:  Florida International University will celebrate a new era when it installs Mark B. Rosenberg as the university’s fifth president on Friday. Rosenberg, the first FIU faculty member to ascend to the presidency of the university, took the reins from President Emeritus Modesto A. Maidique, who led FIU for 23 years. The installation ceremony will include the participation of elected officials, community leaders, and members of the university community and will culminate with Rosenberg reciting the oath of office. A series of events also will be held throughout the day to celebrate Rosenberg’s installation, including a breakfast, luncheon, student ice cream social, toast with faculty and staff, and a panel discussion with Rosenberg and past provosts.

WHO:   Mark B. Rosenberg is the fifth president of Florida International University, one of the 25 largest universities in the nation. A political scientist specializing in Latin America, Rosenberg has more than 30 years of higher education experience. WHEN AND WHERE: The installation will take place Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. at U.S. Century Bank Arena at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., Miami. For a full schedule of the day’s events, please click here.

PARKING/TRAFFIC: The installation ceremony, combined with the first week of classes, is expected to bring heavier than normal traffic to campus on Friday. Media is advised to arrive early and park on the first floor of the Panther Garage, next to the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
