Name: Robby Perez

Hometown: Miami, Fla.

Job Title/Department: Program Coordinator, Office of Alumni Relations

Campus: Modesto A. Maidique Campus

In a nutshell: I am responsible for the FIU Alumni Association’s Web site, our presence on all social networking sites and our Panther Pit Football Tailgate parties.

Number of years at FIU: Almost a year.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people I am meeting and the experience I am getting.

What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department?

We have one of the smallest alumni relations offices in the country in relation to the university’s size, yet we have been at the top of membership growth, percentage-wise, the last few years.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

FIU Stadium because it is the home field of our Golden Panthers football team and its location brings a great college atmosphere to the campus. The team is getting better every year and they are headed in the right direction to hopefully one day soon become one of the elite programs in the nation.

If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be?

That it is one of the fastest growing universities in the nation and it has established colleges of law and medicine in its short history. FIU has grown at an incredible rate and alumni are shocked by the development of the campuses when they come to visit after a few years.

Family snapshot:

Typically Cuban: very family-oriented and loud.

Word that best describes you: Good-hearted.

First paying job: Instructor at a baseball camp.

Favorite TV show: “How I Met Your Mother” and “Entourage.”

Your proudest accomplishment:

I was able to use my baseball career to pay for the majority of my college education at a Jesuit university – Le Moyne College – in Syracuse, N.Y. The people I met and my experiences throughout my four years there have contributed to the person I am today.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

I am getting my master’s in public administration at FIU. And I stay active playing sports and hang out with friends and family.
