Dr. Rosenberg will answer your e-mail queries via video in a post on this site the week of the Aug. 24
FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg is inviting members of the FIU community to submit questions via email to news@fiu.edu. The university’s newest president will answer your questions in a video that will appear Aug. 24, 2009.
The deadline to send in your questions is Aug. 14, 2009.
Hi Mark,
I have 2 questions:
1. Did you receive my Jose Marti "White Rose"?
2. Can we change the campus name back to University ParK?
Would you believe that I am a "professor Emeritus", and still working after 37 years?
Take care.
Marisal
Do you foresee the implementation of any type of Quality Improvement Programs? Throughout my life, be it the military or corporate world, I have found the process or steps of QIP to be a very valuable tool in allowing each Department/Unit/College/entity to identify the ideal areas of improvement beneficial to all parties involved. Also, when properly managed, aids in cost cutting, better consolidation of the same work or type of work being performed in several different areas, and finally the most important part is the feeling of personal participation and acceptance to the changes being identified and implemented by the employees themselves. Thank You for your time and Congratulations to you. DH
I know that FIU has some LEED registered building projects and some planned future ones. Would you be willing to set a code/ordinance/rule that requires all future FIU building projcts to be built to LEED standards? There are many Universities, government organizations, and even cities that require all government buildings to be built to LEED gold standard. I think that FIU could at a minimum make the commitment to LEED Silver. LEED rated buildings reduce operating costs and provide a healthier learning environment in the long term. All universities operate in the long term as far as costs go.
Thank You,
J. Erich Dautel, FIU alumni B.S. Environmental Studies
Dr. Rosenberg,
In light of the penidng Swine Flu epidemic and other colds and viruses that abound, would you consider discontinuing the practice of faculty members shaking hands with all graduates at commencements. While I believe that the intent here is good, in practicallity it may be an extremely dangerous tradition.
Thank you,
Helen Simon

Now that there is a new President at FIU, I might consider going back to graduate school. I wish you the best of luck in your new position and I know that you will make a difference at FIU.
Congratulations on your new appointment, I certainly look forward to bigger and better things for FIU. I am in the last year of my program for School Psychology. Can you help us getting the accredation process moving forward? there is absolutely no reason for the School Psychology Program not to be fully accredited when every major University in florida with this program is accredited.
as a student who has come across some push back from seeking internship outside of Florida because of the lack of accredidation I am sure the effort would certainly make a lot of students in that program happy.
Thanks.
Jan
President Rosenberg,
Would you take into account the number of students, as well as the groups against it, that oppose the change of the campus' name? And, how confident are you that the religious, art and art history and architecture depts will survive the budget cuts? I, as well as other students, don't want to start graduate programs that will be cut later on.
Thanks,
Andrea
Congratulations on your new appointment!
As a student, it is extremely disappointing that numerous professionals at FIU do not return telephone calls nor respond to emails. Will something be done to increase professionalism at FIU? Many students are frustrated with being unable to obtain information in a timely manner. As a result, many of my peers have transferred to other universities.
Congratulations Dr. Rosenberg, it is great to see a man with your credentials taking over a University with great potential. My question is in regard to the Teachers at FIU. This is difficult to answer but the fact is that many teachers at FIU are not performing at a university level, especially adjuncts. I would like to know if it is possible to monitor teachers beyond the plain old end of semester evaluations. I believe that FIU can get to the next level but it we need strong teachers to set the foundation for our students. Thank you Dr. Rosenberg and once again congratulations.

why is it that the education dep. never has enough classes open? their is about 25 students i know, that cant attend fiu because there is no classes open. i am a senior and i cant even find classes to make me a full time student. Also please try to do something with the parking system, their is never parking.
As a new student, I am really disappointed when it comes to students services. How would you expect FIU students to graduate on time when only a couple of classes are open to meet the need of nearly 6000 students in a department. I am talking about about finance classes in the undergraduate program in the school of business. It is extremely frustrating to pay $200 for tuition deposit as a new student and when comes the time to register, no one can help you because the classes are already full. The reason why I chose FIU over other business schools is because I thought FIU has something special to offer, I thought the school will make it in the list among the most prestigious colleges for academics and students satisfaction. Unfortunately, the way I see things are going, the school is sadly loosing its reputation and many students are just frustrated.
Goodmorning, President Rosenberg
I have a few concerns reguarding to students at FIU campuses like myself. I will make this breif due the the number of responses you have recieved.
1. Make students vote count… Over the past 3 years that I have attended FIU, there has been a disconnect between the students and the school administration. We feel like second class citizens. There is a "they will adjust syndrome" at our school. Choices have been made such as renaming the school with out a school vote, just a small select group. We weren't even informed of the change until the change. To increase moral and school spirit students should feel their voice is being heard.
2. Make efforts to increase school moral and spirit. At this point most students just come to school to go to class and leave. FIU is a known commuter school and I know this is mostly campus life's responisbility; but I feel that it is imperative for the students to recieve a well rounded college experience.
3. I love this post! I like the fact that I can state my veiws and have a set date of when they will be answered. Awesome Idea…
Have a great day
Genesis
President Rosenberg,
There is a disconnect and communication problem between departments at the university. They don't seem to communicate with each other and feel separated. What is your communication plan for the university to improve in this area?
Thanks for taking your time to talk to us.
Dr. Rosenberg,
In May 2007 Former President Maidique signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. Do you support this and will you do your part to help FIU uphold this commitment in reducing greenhouse gas emissions?
President Rosenberg,
First, thank you for taking the time out and actually listening and giving answers to the many questions we have as a community. My question is this. While we know that you are very busy, do you plan on and will you make yourself more available to students? I ask this as I believe it important for the student body to know who their leader is both professionally and also as a person. Would you be willing to take time out and on occasion sit and talk with students in the cafeteria or participate in some of the many activities we have here at FIU? I know we all would like to know who are president is.
Dr. Rosenberg,
My concern is with the parking on campus. There are times when parking is impossible to find, if I am not mistaken new building are going up in construction but I do not see new parking spaces.
Is this something that could be address in the not to distant future.
