Improvements make it simpler to navigate Federal Work Study Program

A streamlined process now makes it easier for students to learn about available positions – and for departments to recruit qualified students.

The Division of Human Resources has partnered with the Financial Aid Office to introduce a streamlined process that will benefit everyone who participates in the 2009-2010 Federal Work Study program.

For the first time, departments that hire student employees under the Federal Work Study (FWS) program will have their jobs posted online through the J.O.B.S. Link applicant tracking system. This is the same website for posting faculty, administrative, staff and temporary positions.  Students will now have the opportunity to search for FWS positions and non-Work Study positions at the same time and on the same site.

“This is going to be a win-win situation for students and departments alike,” said Ana Jimenez, HR manager, Temporary & Student Employment Services.  “By making it easier for students to learn of available positions at the university, departments will benefit from a greater applicant pool.  In addition, the student’s engagement experience will be heightened as a result of the invaluable work experience gained as a dual member of the FIU family.”

The Division of Human Resources, in partnership with the Financial Aid Office, sponsored a number of seminars in July to provide employers with relevant information about the FWS Program.  Another workshop will be offered on:

DATE:             Wed., August 12, 2009

TIME:             10 a.m. – noon

LOCATION:  CBC 155

This initiative is the latest in a series of improvements being made to the recruitment process at FIU.  Our mission is to provide outstanding customer service and quality leadership to the University Community as well as to recruit and retain a diverse workforce.  Thank you for allowing the Division of Human Resources to serve you.
