Response to our Aug. 11 post inviting members of the FIU community to submit their questions to FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg was overwhelming. So much so that FIU’s fifth president couldn’t get to all of your questions in this first installment.
The good news is that there’s more to come. In the weeks ahead, we will be posting a second installment, which features more answers to your questions.
In the meantime, enjoy the video below.
Dear President Rosenberg,
Why is it that housing students, who pay to live on FIU's campus are subjected to sharing their parking with the faculty & staff who in addition to taking up the FEW parking spaces available for housing students, have marked parking spots in every lot and garage on campus?
As a housing student, it is very disparaging, & very infuriating to see fellow housing students ticketed because faculty & staff park in housing lots, though they have those marked spots made available to them. Imagine living in an apartment building and having to park over three blocks away on a regular basis because someone else, who doesn't even live in your building, parks there on a regular basis? And if you in turn complain to parking & traffic, and they told you that this person could park wherever they please, even though they have privileged, special parking. It is an outrage to discover that.
What will you do to make sure that the rights and concerns of the housing students as residents of this university are respected in your time as president of this university?
Dear President Rosenberg:
I am delighted to come back to the United States to find that you were selected to lead my Alma Matter, after being you student in the 70's. The University will surely gain from your established leadership skills. Welcome and congratulations to you and the selection committee. They have made a great selection!

Dear President Rosenberg,
Will FIU be ready if a portion of our student body is infected with the Swine Flu? What precautions have we taken? What rules will be implemented for students?
Ideas: 1.Sanitation Stations throughout the University. 2.Signs that encourage washing of hands, outside of the bathroom, in the hallways, etc.
Hello President Rosenberg,
Congratulations on becoming the president of FIU. I have a major question to ask you. Why is it so unbelievably difficcult for students, that have been affiliated for a year, to get accepeted at FIU officially??
Dear President Rosenberg,
Outside of on-campus housing are there or will there be any affiliations with FIU and an affordable student housing property? This is one concern as a new student from out of town. I know alot of students who over looked FIU because of this issue, if you add up the potential tuition funds for the university lossed because of this over a four year period it would be something to address, i think.

Why do we have enough money for a new stadium, a new museum, a new law school, a new medical school, and a $32 million parking lot, but not enough to offer 2-3 upper division Literature classes over the summer?
How exactly does that math work?
Why is it that the Financial Aid Office is so slow in posting student's financial aid awards? Then charge a $100.00 late fee for not accepting the award by the payment deadline?? A whole week of school has went by and I still don't have my award & I really need my book advance. Now I'm behind in my classes! Something really needs to be done about that because it doesn't make any sense!
Dear President Rosenberg,
I was really upset to see the Sports Illustrated article on University cuts to the Marching Band program. When Athletics makes this kind of decision (one that affects the attitude of an entire university!) about the Band, there are some serious problems and lack of understanding as to what your Band program really does for the university, it's students and it's alumni. You can reverse that decision. Will you?
A friend of Band Programs across the country! I would not go to a football game if the Band was not there.

Dear president,
My question is the following, why is it that every student is required to automatically pay with our tuition Athletics Fee's, Id Fee's and Health Fee's? This should be required if the individual student uses those facilities. For example I have my own health insurance which is high enough and on top of that I am obligated to pay for a health fee in FIU. When you try to get a new ID we still get charged $10.00 but we still get charged those same $10.00 in our tuition. Why are we obligated to pay an Athletic fee this should be optional and based upon if you want to attend the gym which in my particular case I do not use the gym nor the health center.
Thanks and I hope to get these questions responded and I hope that with you being the President us student can actually see Good changes occur.
Dear President Rosenberg,
I have been ticketed ten times for the same thing, the aforementioned letter that I asked about on August 24, 2009. Parking & traffic approved half of my ticket appeals and declined the other half, leaving me with a bill of $125.00. I decided to write you again because it is really horrible that FIU is not considering their housing students and the logic for parking nearby the buidling that they live in. The parking is not adequate nearby. I have problems with my foot but am not classified as "handicapped" so am I then supposed to park in a parking garage across campus? What about when I need to bring in groceries and/or books? Am I not entitled as a resident? Its sad.
