The Golden Panthers will kick off the 2009 football season taking on Alabama.

FIU’s 2009 football season starts tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 12, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., as the Golden Panthers take on No. 4 Alabama.
“This is an exciting time for us as we prepare for our first game of the 2009 season against a team that we feel is probably one of the better ones in the country,” head coach Mario Cristobal told FIUSports.com. “This is definitely the most physical football team we have faced around here at FIU in a long time, maybe forever.”
Cristobal says the blue-and-gold team is ready, having practiced all summer for the season opener and the rest of the season. FIU will open at home, in a game against Toledo, on Sept. 26, following a stop in New Jersey for a game against Rutgers on Sept. 19.

On game day, for a nominal fee, FIU football fans may enjoy food and refreshments and receive free giveaways (in the alumni tent for Alumni Association members) beginning two hours prior to kickoff.
As an alumni (son is a student), I am disappointed that a game as huge and important to the football program is not on TV. I even went to Comcast PPV and it is not listed. FIU should work to have these away games aired on TV which will excite the fans and take the program to the next level.
Thank you
Tom
