Men’s soccer team makes it two in a row, women’s soccer falls in Tampa


FIU scored its second victory this season against UNC Wilmington on Sept. 6. Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team lost against UCF at the Dafeldecker Classic in Tampa.

The Golden Panthers defeated the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington, 2-0, on Sept. 6 at FIU Soccer Stadium. It was the team’s second win in a row, following its home victory (2-1) against St. Thomas University on Sept. 4.

Sebastian Frings scored his second goal of the season against the Seahawks in the 74th minute, while Steven Cabas added a goal on a penalty kick with less than two minutes to go, giving FIU its second victory of the season.

The Golden Panthers will return to action at home when they host the Hatters of Stetson on Friday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 p.m.

In FIU women’s soccer action, the Golden Panthers dropped a 5-0 decision to UCF on Sept. 6 at the Dafeldecker Classic in Tampa.

“We did not show up to compete today and that was unfortunate,” head coach Thomas Chestnutt said. FIU is 1-1-2 so far this season.

The team will return to Miami for the first of a three-game home-stand on Sept. 11 when it faces Cal Poly at 6:30 p.m.
