FIU – Guinness record holder?

Indeed, the university now holds the world record for simultaneous yo-yoing after it hosted, with Molina Healthcare, an event on Aug. 24 at the GC Ballroom at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Five hundred fifty-seven participants played yo-yos for two minutes to break the previous record of 493 set earlier this year.

The goal of the event was to use the yo-yo as a visual to approach talking about the problems with yo-yo dieting among college students and Miami’s youth and promote the benefits of health, well-being, nutrition and exercise.

“FIU departments and services aimed at helping students develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle were available for students at a health fair held before and after the world record attempt,” said FIU CFO Kenneth Jessell, who co-hosted the event with David Pollack, Molina Healthcare’s new health plan president.

“Our students learned the importance of eating healthy as a lifestyle choice and the event was a great way to start the year off on the right foot.”
