FIU volleyball fans will have another opportunity to cheer on their record-breaking team at home — Wednesday, Nov. 11 — when the Panthers face Florida Gulf Coast at U.S. Century Bank Arena. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

FIU’s most successful team enters the match having clinched the Sun Belt Conference regular season Nov. 7 with its 3-1 win over Middle Tennessee. The team’s record stands at 26-2 and a perfect 16-0 in conference play. The 16 conference wins is a new school record, breaking the previous record of 15 set in 2008.

In honor of the men and women who serve our country, the team is making the Veteran’s Day’s match Military Appreciation Night. All active military and veterans are admitted free of charge.

FIU alumnus and former track athlete Michael Felsberg ’03 will be honored at the match. Felsberg was a 27-year-old Marine second lieutenant when he died in October 2004 from injuries sustained in combat in Ramadi, Iraq. A weapons platoon commander, he had volunteered for duty in Iraq after hearing that a replacement was needed for an officer who had been killed in combat. Felsberg’s parents, Paul and Arlene Felsberg, will be presented with a game ball signed by the volleyball coach and team.

The match has also been designated a “spirit game” for FIU’s 300-plus student athletes. Every year, the Athletics Department gives a Spirit Award to the male and female student-athletes who best exemplify school spirit. Felsberg is a former two-time winner of the award, which is now called the Michael Felsberg Spirit Award.

FIU students get into the match free with a current FIU ID. Tickets for faculty/staff are $3 and $5 for the public. For more ticket information, please call 305-348-GAME.
