This Jan. 26-27, for every person who donates blood at Modesto A. Maidique Campus, the Aesthetics & Values Honors College seminar will receive $10 from the Community Blood Centers of South Florida, a non-profit, all voluntary blood collection agency. The donation location is in front of the FIU Bookstore.

All donors will receive a meal card in appreciation of their donation and all funds raised will go to the Aesthetics & Values exhibition project and catalog.

“This fundraiser is a great way to raise money through a good cause,” said Panther Jenesis Negron, fundraising chair of Aesthetics & Values 2010. “It’s also an out-of-the-box opportunity for students to work together toward a good cause.”

The Aesthetics & Values seminar examines the vital role visual art plays in the social and cultural dialogue surrounding controversial issues. It also investigates how artists have challenged or enforced authority by creating new aesthetics and explores how art is used to initiate, accelerate or combat social change.

Later this semester, Panthers will demonstrate their resourcefulness and creativity through the research, curation and organization of the Aesthetics & Values Research and Exhibition Project, an annual exhibition of contemporary Miami artist, at the Frost Art Museum March 9-April 18. (A free reception is set for March 24, from 6-9 p.m.)
