FIU’s Global Learning for Global Citizenship kicks off the spring Tuesday Times Roundtable series for students, faculty and staff on Jan. 12 with a session on alternative energy.
The Tuesday Times Roundtable is a weekly series of open discussions of New York Times articles on global current events. It is co-sponsored by the FIU Student Government Association and The New York Times. FIU students, faculty and staff are invited to join the roundtable every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Graham Center, Room 150. Free lunch is provided. This event counts for CSO points.
The first roundtable discussion is entitled, “Alternative Energy: Who Could Object?” Moderated by Mary Pfeiffer of the Honors College, the discussion will explore issues raised in the Jan. 4, 2010 issue of the New York Times, “For Cape Cod Wind Farm, New Hurdle Is Spiritual.”
Copies of the articles are available at each discussion. Participants need not have read the article beforehand. Participants can access articles prior to the discussions via links on the QEP web site, http://goglobal.fiu.edu.
The Tuesday Times Roundtable series is part of the newly enhanced New York Times Readership Program at Modesto A. Maidique Campus. As part of the SGA-funded readership program, New York Times newspapers are made available to students daily, free of charge, at locations across MMC.
I went to the GoGlobal website but couldn't find links to any articles or any info. on the Roundtable series…
Sorry about that — please do check back at goglobal.fiu.edu for the articles. Also, due to a scheduling conflict, the Roundtables will now happen from 12:30-1:30 p.m. See you there!
I think this initiative is fantastic! It provides students the opportunity to engage in intellectually stimulating discussions with other students and professors outside of the classroom. I appreciate that the school gives us access to a free copy of the NY Times on campus and I like it even more that now we can gather with others to discuss articles from the Times. Thanks a lot.
