FIU survey to gauge women’s impact on Florida’s economy

MIAMI – The Center for Leadership at Florida International University has partnered with The Commonwealth Institute for the fifth annual Woman-Led Businesses Survey, which measures the impact of women leaders on the Florida economy.

The survey will seek to better understand how women leaders view the demands and satisfaction from their careers, the impact of their choices on their personal lives, the future of the organization they lead, and their leadership styles.

“With 2010’s study we hope to not only track business trends of organizations led by women, but also to gauge women leaders’ approach to current economic concerns such as healthcare and employment,” said Joyce Elam, executive dean of the College of Business Administration and a member of the Center’s Academic Advisory Board.

The survey was sent to approximately 44,000 woman leaders in Florida and its results will be released in June.

In the past, the survey has been used to measure the status of Florida’s women leaders compared to their colleagues in rest of the nation. Last year, the survey concluded that women-led businesses generally take on little debt and therefore fared better during the economic downturn than businesses headed by men.
