Interim Dean McDemmond new board chair-elect of Lumina Foundation


The Lumina Foundation for Education has appointed Marie V. McDemmond, interim dean of the College of Education, chair-elect of the board. She will begin her tenure at the annual meeting of the directors March 2010.

Former president of Norfolk State University, McDemmond has served in many high-level college administrative positions including vice president for finance and chief operating officer at Florida Atlantic University. She also held finance positions at Atlanta University, University of Massachusetts/Amherst, Emory University, and the community college system in Massachusetts.

McDemmond was appointed to the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ leadership lecture is named in her honor and Norfolk State’s research center also bears her name.
