And the first FIU Sanders Prize goes to…Scott Turow

Best-selling author Scott Turow (Presumed Innocent) received the first Lawrence A. Sanders Prize at a ceremony at Biscayne Bay Campus on Feb. 11. Turow read from and discussed his work with a house full of guests.

The annual award, presented to Turow by the Creative Writing Program, carries a $5,000 prize supported by a grant from the Lawrence A. Sanders Foundation of Boca Raton. It recognizes a writer of fiction whose work combines literary excellence and popular appeal.

“From the outset, critics have pointed to Scott Turow’s work as proof that one can engage a broad audience while maintaining the highest literary standards,” said Creative Writing Program Director Les Standiford.
