Faculty/Staff Night at the ball park April 17


Faculty and staff members are invited to bring their families and enjoy an evening of college baseball

Saturday, April 17 is Faculty/Staff Night at the FIU Baseball Stadium as the Panthers take on the New Orleans Pioneers. Faculty and staff members and up to four family members get in for free. All fans in attendance will also receive a free rally towel. First pitch is at 5 p.m.

Currently sixth in the Sun Belt Conference, the Panthers (19-13, 6-6) are led by sophomores Garrett Wittels and Mike Martinez, who rank No. 1 and No. 2 on the team in batting, respectively. Senior Tim Jobe, a preseason Sun Belt All-Conference selection has turned it on as of late, hitting .444 over the last seven games. Jobe is second on the team in home runs with seven to Jabari Henry’s eight.

Sophomore R.J. Fondon, who has proved to be one of the most consistent pitchers on Coach Turtle Thomas’s staff, takes the mound fSaturday. In 10 appearances (starting four games), he has posted a 1-2 overall record and averages a strikeout per inning. His 3.99 ERA ranks No. 1 on the team and No. 10 in the conference.
