U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., visited FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus April 13 to learn more about the new School of Environment and Society (SEAS) in the College of Arts & Sciences.
While on campus, Wasserman Schultz visited with faculty, toured lab facilities and listened to a presentation by SEAS Director Michael Heithaus about the vision for the school. SEAS, which brings together natural and social scientists with writers, linguists and philosophers, is designed to explore today’s environmental challenges, develop solutions and educate the next generation of leaders. During her visit, Wasserman Schultz also met with FIU President Mark Rosenberg and College of Arts & Sciences Dean Kenneth Furton.
It was great that the Congresswoman came and spent almost two hours with the students, faculty and staff of SEAS and the Marine Sciences program. She seems genuinely committed to FIU, to BBC (which is in her district), and to the environment and the issues related to it, which SEAS will be addressing. Let's hope she continues to support us!
