City of Fort Lauderdale recognizes PR, advertising students’ work

The City of Fort Lauderdale recently awarded a plaque of distinction and recognition for the work of associate professor Rosanna Fiske and five former students from her campaigns class: Alejandro Baez, Ana Vega, Cristina Campos, Cynthia Founds and Melissa Desrameaux.

SJMC students Alejandro Baez, Christina Campos, Ana Vega, Cynthia Founds, Melissa Demeraux and professor Fernando Figueredo, chair of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations.

The students, whose last-semester campaign project was for the City of Fort Lauderdale’s water conservation initiative, were formally recognized for what the commission called, “amazing efforts” and hard work. The presentation took place at the April 6 City Commission meeting which was streamed live on the City’s Web site.

The campaigns class is a capstone course where seniors in advertising and public relations are organized in teams that act as a full-service PR/ad agency. The students are required to put together an integrated communications campaign for a real client using the knowledge they have gained within the School of Journalism and Mass Communication program.
