FIU hosts Autism Speaks forum “Giving Answers and Getting Results”


WHAT:  Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and Autism Speaks’ Miami-Dade Chapter will host an open forum on the advances of science and how they pertain to autism spectrum disorders. “Giving Answers and Getting Results” will feature guest speakers from Autism Speaks. Created by Bob and Suzanne Wright in 2005, Autism Speaks is now the nation’s largest autism science and advocacy organization. Their continued efforts aim to raise public awareness and offer opportunities for research, prevention, and treatment.

WHO: Chief Science Officer Geri Dawson and Executive Vice President of Programs and Services Peter Bell. Dawson will present a lecture on “Providing Hope and Promise – Scientific Breakthroughs within our Reach.”  Bell will discuss “Making a Difference Today – An Overview of Autism Speaks Resources and Advocacy.” 

WHEN AND WHERE: 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center Concert Hall, 10910 SW 17th St., Miami on FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required at http://walks.autismspeaks.org/miamiforum. Parking is also free and will be available in Lot 5 adjacent to the Wertheim Performing Arts Center.
