PG5 Market Station officially open for business

FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg inaugurated the new multi-purpose building at MMC on Sept. 1.

It was a morning to celebrate, with good friends and tasty food.

The grand opening of the already very popular PG5 Market Station at Modesto A. Maidique Campus on Sept. 1 drew out a number of FIU administrators and staff led by President Mark B. Rosenberg, Provost Douglas Wartzok and the university’s CFO, Kenneth Jessell.

PG5 is a multi-purpose structure that sits on the north side of MMC, right by the S.W. 8th Street entrance to campus. It features six new restaurants (including Chick-fil-A, Moe’s and Papa John’s), classrooms and a cyber café, as well as 2,000 parking spaces.

“The biggest thing that PG5 accomplishes is it is a place where students can hang out, study, meet people,” said Jeff Krablin, associate vice president of Business Services. “It helps build affinity for campus life because it gives students another destination place where they can spend time.”

Krablin added that, in the future, the FIU family, particularly students, can expect more of these “destination” places to pop up on campus.

“We have the number of students here where we can have the discussion of creating different ‘neighborhoods’ that will meet different needs around campus,” he said. “Places like the Graham Center, where the student union meets, or now PG5…. We have the demand for it.”
